Short answer: Alignerr is legit. It's run by Labelbox, a funded AI data company, and pays weekly through Stripe or PayPal. On Alignerr's own site, pay runs from about $10 an hour for some language work to $120 an hour for specialist roles. The catch: some project trials are unpaid, rates can be hidden until you're picked, and there can be gaps between projects.
We don't list Alignerr jobs on our board, and we earn nothing if you join. This is an editorial review, checked against Alignerr's own site and help centre, Trustpilot and the Better Business Bureau on 7 October 2026.
Is Alignerr legit?
Yes. Alignerr says it is "Powered by Labelbox", and Labelbox calls Alignerr its network of experts in its own press releases. Labelbox is a venture-backed company whose investors include SoftBank, Andreessen Horowitz and Kleiner Perkins. Alignerr has a public help centre, a weekly pay schedule and formal ID checks.
The reviews are split:
- Trustpilot: 4.5 out of 5 from 2,919 reviews (checked 7 October 2026). Many recent five-star reviews are posted right after the AI interview and praise the interview, not the pay. Treat them as first impressions.
- Better Business Bureau: rated F, not accredited, with 8 complaints closed in the last three years. The page doesn't say why.
Complaints on both sites cover waiting for work, slow support and questions about promised payments. These are real concerns. They are not signs of a scam.
What it is
Alignerr pays experts to train and test AI. That includes labelling data, writing prompts, transcribing audio, testing chatbots and reviewing answers in a specialist field. It says it recruits "PhDs, researchers, subject matter experts, and experienced professionals". Its job board also carries many language and audio roles.
You work as a contractor. Access is limited in some countries "for legal, regulatory, and security reasons", but Alignerr publishes no list. If your country is blocked, you'll see a "Location Denied" message when you sign up.
Alignerr pay
Alignerr's home page and its job board tell two different stories (both checked 7 October 2026):
- Home page: claims "$80/hr average pay". Example roles show $30–50/hr for a prompt writer, $30–40/hr for English writing and $40–120/hr for testing and review roles.
- Job board: says it has 5,678 roles. Most of the first 60 shown were language transcription roles at $15–35/hr. Some language roles started at $10/hr.
So $80 an hour is not the typical rate. Expect $15–35 an hour for language and general work, and more for STEM, coding and specialist roles.
Pay can be per hour, per task or per media hour, depending on the project. Alignerr's help centre also says:
- "A few projects in their evaluation phase are unpaid."
- "Sometimes, pay rates are shown only after you're selected for the project."
Its advice is not to start work until you're sure of the rate. We agree.
How you're paid. Weeks run Monday to Sunday, and payment is made by the following Friday. You're paid through Stripe or PayPal. Your country decides which, and you can't choose. If you were hired through Upwork, Upwork pays you.
How to get in
- Sign in with Google on alignerr.com and upload your CV. Have your LinkedIn and phone number ready.
- Apply to specific roles. Some roles add an assessment or a voice sample.
- Do the AI interview. Many applicants describe an AI interviewer called Zara.
- Verify your ID when matched. Alignerr uses Persona and accepts a driving licence, state ID, work permit or permanent residence card.
- Watch Discord and email. New projects, with their pay rate, are announced on Discord.
The catch
- Gaps between projects. Alignerr says "downtime may occasionally occur between projects".
- Unpaid trials. Some evaluation phases pay nothing, so check before you start.
- Hidden rates. Some projects only show pay after you're selected.
- Headline pay is higher than most listings. Judge a role by its own rate, not the $80 average.
- Support complaints. Trustpilot and BBB reviewers report slow replies and payment questions.
Our take: Alignerr is worth applying to, especially if you have a degree or a second language. Go in expecting irregular work. Confirm the rate before every project, and keep another platform on the go. Our hiring tracker shows which platforms we list are hiring now.
