What we count
Open roles are roles a platform still lists on its own job board. Every night we check each role against that board (or by hand where a platform publishes none) and take a snapshot just after midnight UTC. A role counts as open if the last check, within 10 days, found it listed. Reposts of the same role are counted once.
New roles are ones we saw for the first time; closed roles are ones the board stopped listing. Both are counted from noon UTC to noon UTC around each night's check. A role the board takes down and reposts under a new id the same night counts as neither.
Pay is hourly only: the starting rate on listings that state an hourly rate of $5 or more. Roles paid per task or per project count as roles but not towards pay. Median is the middle starting rate; the range runs from the lowest starting rate to the highest stated ceiling.
Who can apply is what the listing or the platform's published policy says: worldwide, a list of countries, or not stated. Unknowns are shown as unknown, never filled in.
Coverage: 8–9 Oct (2 nights). The index's nightly rows start on 8 Oct 2026, so there is no earlier edition. Until the month ends, each night adds a row and the figures move. One platform is shown under a generic label, “AI expert network”.
These are roles we saw on each platform's board, not every job that exists: platforms also hire through invitations and talent pools they don't publish.
