Best AI training platforms in 2026, ranked by pay
By Charlie Pham · Updated 10 October 2026 · 8 min read
On our live data Turing pays most, at a typical $150 an hour, and the unnamed expert network and micro1 have the most open roles. Every platform has a catch, named in the ranking.
If you want the AI training platform that pays most, our live data says Turing, with a typical starting rate of $150 an hour. If you want the one with the most open roles, it is the unnamed AI expert network (273) or micro1 (255). Every platform below also has a catch, and I name it.
This ranking uses pay from the roles we check, not from old reviews. For platforms we don't list, I use the pay they publish, with the date I checked it.
How we make money. We earn a referral bonus if you're hired through an Apply link for Mercor, micro1, Ethos, Turing, TELUS Digital AI or Handshake AI. It costs you nothing, and referral deals never decide which jobs we list or how they're scored (disclosure). We earn nothing from Outlier, DataAnnotation, Alignerr or the other platforms we review but don't list.
The ranking: platforms on our board, by typical pay
Source: pay explorer and tracker, last checked 9 October 2026. "Typical" is the middle starting hourly rate across roles that list one. Only platforms with at least three hourly rates are shown. "Open roles" includes older roles still listed. The hiring score has no unit and only means something next to the other rows.
| # | Platform | Typical pay | Range | Open roles | Hiring score |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Turing | $150/hr | $30 to $150 | 197 | 1,010 |
| 2 | Rex.zone (RemoExperts) | $68/hr | $20 to $150 | 32 | 192 |
| 3 | Meridial (Invisible) | $63/hr | $10 to $100 | 94 | 490 |
| 3 | Terac | $63/hr | $35 to $300 | 16 | 105 |
| 5 | AI expert network (platform not named) | $60/hr | $15 to $450 | 273 | 1,395 |
| 6 | micro1 | $50/hr | $6 to $400 | 255 | 1,302 |
| 6 | HumanSignal | $50/hr | $50 | 4 | 40 |
| 8 | CrowdGen by Appen | $35/hr | $25 to $100 | 53 | 299 |
| 8 | xAI | $35/hr | $35 to $100 | 16 | 80 |
| 10 | Welo Data | $25/hr | $5 to $105 | 211 | 1,079 |
| 11 | RWS TrainAI | $16/hr | $6 to $36 | 43 | 248 |
How to read it:
- Turing's $150 is a median. It matches the top of Turing's range, so at least half its listed roles start at $150.
- A high typical rate on few roles is thin. HumanSignal has four roles. Terac has 16. Treat them as a hint.
- The widest ranges are the riskiest to read. micro1 runs from $6 to $400 an hour because it mixes entry-level and specialist roles. Check the one you apply for.
- The AI expert network is a platform we list but don't name on the page. Its roles run from generalist work at $40 to $70 an hour to $350 to $450 for oncologists.
Who is hiring hardest this week
Pay means little if nobody is hiring. The tracker scores platforms on new roles, slots filling and reports from people doing the work. This week's top four by hiring score:
| Platform | Hiring score | Roles added in the last 14 days |
|---|---|---|
| AI expert network | 1,395 | 273 |
| micro1 | 1,302 | 255 |
| Welo Data | 1,079 | 211 |
| Turing | 1,010 | 197 |
Meridial (490), CrowdGen by Appen (299), RWS TrainAI (248) and Rex.zone (192) follow. Ethos, TELUS Digital AI, Handshake AI, Alignerr and DataAnnotation had nothing new on our list in the last 14 days. Some of them may still be open. Several are platforms we review but don't list.
Platforms we review but don't list
These have no hourly data in our tracker, so the pay below is what each platform publishes itself, checked on the date shown.
| Platform | Published pay | Checked | Main catch |
|---|---|---|---|
| DataAnnotation | $20+ (multilingual) to $40 to $150+ (coding) an hour, by track | 9 Oct 2026 | One Starter Assessment, no retakes |
| Outlier | "Up to" $7.50 to $150 an hour, by role page | 9 Oct 2026 | No guaranteed hours; associate degree minimum |
| Alignerr | Home page claims "$80/hr" average pay; role cards show $30 to $120 an hour | 9 Oct 2026 | Some project trials are unpaid, per our review |

Platforms where pay is set per listing
Four platforms we cover show pay on each listing and not in our stats table:
- Mercor. Pay is shown on each listing. It is the widest range of beginners to experts. Read the section on its March 2026 data breach before you upload ID.
- Handshake AI. Nothing is listed on our board right now. Most projects must be done from inside the US.
- Ethos. An expert network for experienced professionals. No pay listed on our board right now.
- TELUS Digital AI. Rating and data roles, often per language and country. No pay listed on our board right now.
The best platform for each kind of person
These picks come straight from the data above and from each platform's review.
- Highest pay, if you code or have a specialism: Turing, then Rex.zone and Meridial. Typical $63 to $150 an hour.
- Most roles to choose from: the AI expert network and micro1, with 273 and 255 open roles.
- Entry-level and language work: Welo Data ($25 typical) and CrowdGen by Appen ($35). RWS TrainAI ($16 typical) pays least on our board. Its FAQ says pay follows in-country minimum wage. Our guide to AI training jobs with no degree goes through what's open without one.
- Credentialed experts (doctors, lawyers, scientists): the AI expert network, where we've listed roles from $100 to $450 an hour, and micro1 and Mercor. See AI training jobs for lawyers or for nurses.
- Chatbot rating with a clear way in: DataAnnotation, if you're ready for a single assessment.
What the ranking can't tell you
- Pay isn't earnings. Hours aren't guaranteed on any of these platforms. A $60 rate with two hours of work a week is $120.
- Rates depend on country on some platforms. Appen posted the same Vietnamese voice recording project at $25 in the US, $15 in Taiwan and $5 in the Philippines (see how AI training pay works).
- Unlisted platforms have no tracker data. We can't tell you whether they're hiring this week.
- Our data is US dollars as posted. Roles paid per task or per project are counted in open roles but not in the pay figures.
Pick two platforms that are hiring this week and apply to both. The tracker updates nightly, and the pay explorer has the full table. Want two side by side? Use our comparison pages.
